So, where do we go from here? Like I said at the start, there are a lot of support services out there. It’s just a case of reaching out and making that decision to stop drinking. You may well have developed a alcohol-related condition by now. you’ll therefore understand and agree that for you, alcohol is a poison. Its going to be hard to have to admit to yourself that alcohol is now controlling your life. In order to stop drinking and get control of your life back again, it’s got to be a genuine conscious decision to want to quit. its not going to work if we just say, I’ll cut down on my drinking, or I’ll only drink alcohol free-lagers instead. Sadly we are all only human, and our life styles and burdens make us who we are today. There is a quote by B.J. Neblett that goes,“We are the sum total of our experiences. Those experiences – be they positive or negative – make us the person we are, at any given point in our lives. And, like a flowing river, those same experiences, and those yet to come, continue to influence and reshape the person we are, and the person we become. None of us are the same as we were yesterday, nor will be tomorrow.” We may have allowed certain situations from our past that still affect us today. We may not realise it at the time, but our subconscious mind will always remind us of happier times, when we were younger, adventurous and wild. Or you could just be asocial drinker who has a few drinks every night. Its these cycles we’re going to have to break in order to get our lives back on track.But it has to be YOUR decision.Ask yourself why you need a drink? What is it that’s making you crave alcohol? Once you realise what it is, you can ask yourself, “okay, so now I know why, what am I going to do to make things better?”This is a case of turning a negative into a positive. Above all be honest with yourself. Try and talk about your journey that’s taken you to this point in your life. Try and share with others. We may all have different stories to tell, but you’ll be surprised that therewill be others out there who can relate to what your saying. The next thing you’ll realise is that your not just helping yourself by off loading, but your also helping others too. Once again, your turning negatives into a positives.Speak to your GP about support groups in your area. Or just Google “Local Support Groups”. When you next visit your Doctors, ask them if you can have a Liver Function Test carried out? This is just a blood test, which willshow up any signs of liver damage. Depending on the results, further tests maybe required, like and MRI/CATscan or maybe evena Fibroscan. This will show how well or poorly your liver is. This is important, if your liver is at the Fatty Liver stage, then this is totally reversible.
